I was at this time 17 years old.

J'avais alors 17 ans.

I wasn't somebody who let me relax on a chair, watching for cars passing. No! It was the practice of the "old people" who bring togather for chat.
Myself, I preferred drawing in my room or watching TV, if I wasn't out.

Je n'étais pas du genre à me reposer le cul assit sur une chaise, à regarder les voitures passer. Non! Ca c'était la pratique des "vieux" qui se retrouvaient ainsi entre voisins pour taper la causette.
Moi, je préférais dessiner dans ma chambre, ou bien regarder la TV, si je n'étais pas de sortie.

Yet, that evening, I let my pencil down and go to the balcony. I had never done such a thing, but now I'm going to sit on the bench, watching the night coming.
I'm on the 4th floor, and I dominate my neighborhood. Before me, standing out the Pyrenees. The sky is clear, and I can see the stars shining.

Pourtant, ce soir là, je laissais tomber mon crayon pour aller me détendre au balcon. Je n'avais jamais fait ça, mais voilà que je vais m'asseoir sur le banc, regarder la nuit tomber.
Je suis au 4ème étage, et je domine mon quartier. Devant moi se découpent les Pyrénées. Le ciel est dégagé, et je peux voir les étoiles briller.

On the horizon, just above the Corbières, I can see three stars of the most brilliants, the two on the right closed from eatch other.
On the main street, down me, cars are breaking the silence of the night. On the cutting of the mountain, I can locate the exactly point where is situed the castle of Queribus. 
It's funny, I feel that the distance between the two stars on the right is bigger than just now... But It's not possible, I mistake myself.
I enjoy to relax myself, like that.

a l'horizon, juste au dessus des Corbières, je repère trois étoiles des plus brillantes, les deux de droite rapprochées l'une de l'autre.
Sur le boulevard, en contrebas, les véhicules brisent le silence du soir. Sur la découpe montagneuse, je repère l'endroit exact où se situ le château de Quéribus.
C'est drôle, j'ai l'impression que la distance entre les deux étoiles de droite est plus grande que tout à l'heure... Mais ce n'est pas possible, c'est moi qui juge mal.
Je suis bien à me relaxer là, comme ça.


This star intrigues me. I really feel It was more on the right, just now. I point this light to see if It's moving left. It could be a plane!
Time passes, and now I'm sure that It's moving from east to west, because It's now close by the star on the left. So It's a plane!

The removal of this light is so slow that It's not perceptible, but now I feel that It has become fixed. It doesn't finish It course to the star on the left. Maybe the plane has changed direction.
I watch over it.

Cette étoile m'intrigue. j'ai vraiment l'impression qu'elle était plus pré de l'autre tout à l'heure. Je piste ce point lumineux pour voir s'il se déplace. Ca pourrait être un avion!
Le temps passe, et maintenant j'ai la certitude qu'il se déplace d'est en ouest, puisqu'il s'est rapproché de l'étoile de gauche. C'est donc un avion!

Le déplacement de cette lumière est si lent, qu'il n'est pas perceptible, mais j'ai maintenant l'impression qu'il est devenu fixe. Il ne termine pas son déplacement cers l'étoile de gauche. Peut être l'avion a-t-il changé de cap.
Je le piste.


Time passes, and I realize that this light is growing up. That's right! The plane took a southerly direction, and now comes right on me. It can be explained, since between it and me is the airport of Perpignan. It comes to land there.

Le temps passe, et je me rends compte que ce point de lumière grossit. C'est bien ça! L'avion a prit la direction du sud, et vient maintenant droit sur moi. Ca s'explique, puisque entre lui et moi, se trouve l'aéroport de Perpignan. Il vient se poser là.


And now the lighting is becoming increasingly intence. On the minutes passing, the plane appears to be very close and low altitude. I will soon hear the noise of the engine.

Et maintenant l'éclairage devient de plus en plus intence. Avec les minutes qui passen, l'avion semble très proche et bas en altitude. Je vais bientôt entendre le bruit du moteur. 


I am now surprised by the power of its lighting. It's amazing, It looks like a big spot, the same you can find on a war frigate. Why an airplaine with such a light? And why don't it land at the airport?

Then the lights decreases, as if they illuminated upwards. I'm no longer dazzled and I'll finally be able to view the aircraft.

Je suis maintenant étonné par la puissance de son éclairage. C'est surprenant, on dirait un gros spot, comme on en trouve sur les frégates de guerre. Pourquoi un avion porterait-il une balise d'une telle intensité? et pourquoi ne plonge-t-il pas sur l'aéroport?
.
Puis la lumière décroit, comme si le spot se relevait. Je ne suis plus ébloui et je vais enfin pouvoir observer l'avion.


but now suddently that's a totally different situation. I see better this event now. the aircraft is not so low as I thought. It's very far away and high in the sky. 
. 
So how did I commit such a mistake? And why such a luminous intensity? 
. 
I look interrogative this plane that I see still very far away, but It's strange, It doesn't seem a plane... It seems disproportionately large... What's this? It's necessarily an aircraft!?! 
. 
The spacecraft approached over the minutes pass... And now that's it! 
.
Mais voilà soudain que se révèle une toute autre situation. Je perçois mieux l'évènement maintenant. L'avion n'est pas si bas et si prés que je l'estimais. Il est en fait très loin et haut dans le ciel. 
. 
Mais alors comment ai-je put commettre une si grosse erreur de jugement? Et pourquoi une telle intensité lumineuse? 
. 
Je regarde interrogatif cet avion que je vois encore très loin, mais c'est bizarre, on ne dirait pas un avion... Il me semble démesurément grand... Qu'est ce que c'est que ça? C'est forcément un avion!?! 
. 
L'engin s'approche au fil des minutes qui passent... Et là ça y est!

 
I can see it!... My god!... This is not "something to us"!... A huge aircraft in the sky, flying high! A triangle of lights! It's incredible! It's a UFO!
A UFO!!!

Je le vois!... Mon dieu!... Ce n'est pas "un truc à nous"!... Un appareil immence dans le ciel, qui vole très haut! Un triangle de lumières! C'est incroyable! C'est un OVNI!
UN OVNI!!!


I am now experiencing a moment incredible. I'm looking at a UFO! What many people don't believe. what other dream so strong. So mush impressive than a furtive point, I have before me a huge triangle of lights that comes right at me! I live that!
A UFO!!!

Je suis en train de vivre un instant incroyable. J'observe un OVNI! Ce à quoi bien des gens ne croient pas. Ce à quoi d'autres rêvent fort. Tellement plus impressionnant qu'un furtif point lumineux, j'ai devant mes yeux un immence triangle de lumières qui vient droit sur moi! Je vis ça!
UN OVNI!!!


It must be more than an hour I'm watching over the evolution of this phenomenon. The spacecraft must evolve at an altitude I estimate at 6 miles. And it should measure about 2 to 2.5 miles wide.

Ca doit faire maintenant plus d'une heure que je suis l'évolution de ce phénomène. L'engin doit évoluer à une altitude que j'estime à 10 000 mètres. Et il doit mesurer environ 3 à 4 kilomètres d'envergure.


Now the machine is almost at the zenith. Approaching the city, it appears to have sharply reduced its speed of movement. An airliner fall at this speed, it's almost standing. I contemplate it. No noise! the UFO is perfectly silent!

I just go back quickly inside home looking for binoculars, and inform my mother to come and see something at the balcony. She follows me, and I show her what I see in the sky. Her reaction? None. She observes without stumbling, then return to the TV, without saying a word...
.
Maintenant l'engin est presque au zénith. a l'approche de la ville, il semble avoir fortement réduit sa vitesse de déplacement. Un avion de ligne n'accrocherait pas à  cette allure, il est presque à l'arrêt. Je le contemple à souhait. Aucun bruit! L'OVNI est parfaitement silencieux!

Je rentre vite à l'intérieur chercher des jumelles, et prévient ma mère de venir voir quelque chose au balcon. Elle me suit, et je lui montre ce que je vois dans le ciel. Sa réaction? aucune. Elle observe sans broncher, puis retourne devant sa TV, sans dire un mot...


I realize that the triangle has now half switched off lights. They turned off while I was inside.

I'm very impressed by what I see. at this moment, the dream of a universal and superior extraterrestrial life, for me, has become a reality. I'm not afraid, I am calm. I tell myself that there are aliens in this machine. How are they? where are they coming from?

Je m'apperçois que le triangle a deux fois moins de lumières allumées maintenant. Elles se sont éteintes pendant que j'étais à l'intérieur.
.
Je suis subjugué par ce que je vois. A cet instant, le rêve universel d'une vie extraterrestre et supérieure, pour moi, devient réalité. Je n'ai pas peur, je suis calme. je me dis qu'il y a des êtres extraterrestres à l'intérieur de cet engin. Comment sont-ils? D'où est ce qu'ils viennent?


With binoculars, I'm looking for what could be a cabin, but I can see nothing. the triangle shouldn't be hollow because I don't see the stars in it. And the lights are too intense to be able to identify the source.

I never tire to admire what I see and think:"If you want to take me away, then take me away!"

avec les jumelles, je cherche ce qui pourrait être une carlingue, mais je ne vois rien. Le triangle ne doit pourtant pas être creux car je ne vois pas le ciel étoilé à l'intérieur. et les lumières sont trop intenses pour que je puisse en identifier la source. 
. 
Je ne me lasse pas d'admirer ce que je vois et pense:"si vous voulez m'emmener, alors emmenez moi!" 


The UFO is now just above me, and will pass away over the building that hide it until its reappear on the other side. I follow it till the end.

That's it! It disappeared! I leave quickly on the other side to regain the visual contact.

L'OVNI est maintenant à mon aplomb, et va passer au dessus de l'immeuble qui le cachera jusqu'à sa sortie de l'autre côté. Je le suis jusqu'à la dernière goutte.
.
Ca y est! Il a disparut! Je pars vite de l'autre côté reprendre le contact visuel.


I expect... nothing... I can see nothing. I'm looking for it everywhere in the sky, and I cannot find "my UFO". I know it was sailing slowly and slowly, but it should be out now! It still didn't stop at the top of the building?

I turn back on the other side... nothing! I return... nothing more. A quarter of an hour passes... nothing! I lost the UFO!
.
Its over, I won't see it again. I didn't want this to stop... I am very sad!

j'attends... rien... je ne vois rien. Je regarde partout dans le ciel, et je ne trouve pas "mon OVNI". Je sais qu'il naviguait de plus en plus lentement, mais il devrait sortir maintenant! Il ne s'est quand même pas arrêté au dessus de l'immeuble?
.
Je repars de l'autre côté... rien! Je revien... plus rien. Un quart d'heure passe... rien! j'ai perdu l'OVNI!
.
C'est fini, je ne le reverrais plus. Je ne voulais pas que ça s'arrête... je suis très triste!
 


I've just leaved an exceptional time. The UFO is now in my head for ever.

Je viens de vivre un moment exceptionnel. L'OVNI est maintenant dans ma tête pour toujours.
